Men’s Prada SS18 review
ROLL up your sleeves, says Prada. As shirts and sweatshirts covered with comic-book prints and paired with high-waisted trousers revealed the arms and were also complemented by the illustrated Roy Lichtenstein-esque backdrop spilling from the walls onto the runway and the onlookers’ seats.
Miuccia Prada combined both the real and the fantastic as comics and superhero motifs were her inspiration for the SS18 collection since every superhero has both a human and a fictional supernatural side to him. There were no capes in sight but retro ‘60s-inspired onesies made an appearance in bright red, black and shades of blue among other colour choices which tend to be the most favoured superhero colours (think of Batman, Spiderman, Superman or the Flash). The colour-contrasting trainers with Velcro fastening looked cool and suitable for the latter hero and just like the onesies had a retro feel.
Apart from the comic inspiration behind the show, the collection appeared generally very youthful with properly short high-waisted shorts, patterned school-boy knee-high socks and cardigans, too-cool-for-school Converse-like high tops, bum bags and pastel suits worn with colourful brogues.
