Men’s Prada AW17 review

PRADA’s AW17 collection for men was presented during Milan Men’s Fashion Week and was translated into women’s wardrobe too as women’s looks were shown alongside the men’s. For this season Miuccia Prada was feeling a bit 1960s and a bit mod. Corduroy ruled the catwalk in bright orange and turquoise to muted beige and brown, from suits, jackets and coats paired with leather trousers and trousers or skirts matched with contrasting furry belts, artistically and colourfully patterned jumpers and a clutch or large portfolios.

This collection was very material-oriented. Some of the favourites were different kinds of tweed which came as short bomber jackets, suits and belted coats worn with briefcases as the final touch. Another regular was a polished leather in an array of colours including bright red, orange and blue and as matching and suits were in the spotlight during this show, leather came in full looks too.

For the girls, there were all things soft. Long belted shearling coats, furry shoes or newspaper boy hats and brightly hued fur coats, as well as fluffy knits with floral prints or embroidery, coordinating sweaters with pencil skirts and worn with patterned socks and loafers pointy court shoes with a pink bow. The aesthetic of these looks was somewhere between a little-girl-gone-wild and a grandmother-with-a -love-of-colours. But Prada being Prada, come next winter – or sooner – this is what is going to be on everybody’s minds and wish lists.
