Love x Style x Life: all things important by Garance Doré
After a two-year hiatus, fans and loyal readers of fashion blogger, illustrator, photographer (and now author), Garance Doré, can finally get their hands on her first book titled, Love x Style x Life.
Doré continues to share her stories and lessons learnt to inspire her readers. In her book’s introduction, she says: “We want to find our place in this world. And to be very stylish along the way, of course.” It sums up what Love x Style x Life is all about. The self-confessed over-sharer and never-taking-herself-too-seriously Doré shares her wisdom and experiences that are close to her heart.
Doré has stuck to the trademark witty, light-hearted tone she has perfected since the start of her blog, which was founded in 2006 as a platform for showcasing her illustrations. It makes her readers really connect with her, as if they are listening to their best friend talking. And, because the author is a strong visual person, the book is aesthetically pleasing. It is also accompanied by Doré’s illustrations made specifically for the book, along with photographs that have previously appeared on the blog.
Opening with Style as the first chapter, she talks about the evolution of her personal style from the age of four, what she’s learned about style in general, while telling amusing anecdotes related to style. Plus, there are delightful interviews with the women she admires, including the editor of Vogue Paris, Emmanuelle Alt.
Originally from the French island of Corsica, the forever cool Doré lived in Marseille before moving to Paris and later, New York, where she currently resides. On her blog, she likes to compare the ‘City of Light’ with the ‘Big Apple’ – the two cities she loves. Doré observes their residents, at times even making fun of them.
With Doré being French, lessons on elegance remain a part in the book where she explores light-hearted topics such as the importance of saying a good hello, or how to write a proper thank you note.
Doré saved the juicy chapter for last, where she writes about love – love for her family, love for her friends, but also romantic love. She has created a list of her relationships, including her relationship and breakup with Scott Schuman from street style blog, The Sartorialist, which some fans of this power couple are still recovering from.
Garance Doré is taking her book on a tour all over the US with additional stops in Canada, Paris and London on 18 November.
