Céline AW16 review
AT Céline it was all about the oversized and the layered for AW16. Wide relaxed trousers, some with slits on the sides with fur edges, were worn with everything – loose jumpers and polo necks, long shirts, dresses and big coats, sometimes multiple layered on top of each other.
Proposing to wear sandals in the middle of winter, Phoebe Philo is perhaps also adopting a new model for her collections, just like many other designers at the moment, and acknowledges that not everyone around the world has the same weather. Later on models changed into pointy heeled shoes as well.
There was a sense of adventure – travelling to and exploring far away places which also explains the sandals – as Philo introduced earthy brown coats, leather pockets tied around the waist, an upgrade to a fanny pack, leather and python coats, as well as shearling.
There was also a wide offering of dresses – pleated, draped, wool, long silk T-shirt dresses with big contrasting chain belts paired with black leggings or ivory silk seemingly creased plisse dresses, also made in black creating a wet look and worn with big stone earrings for a sense of occasion. Bags were made in different shapes and sizes but carried in hand with straps wrapped around the wrists.
